Description:
J. Rigby & Co. Special .416 Bore for Big Game

Based on an original Oberndorf standard length Mauser action with a single stage Mauser trigger, tradtional flag safety that is marked “SAFE” in gold, a 5-panel checkered bolt knob, Nitre blued extractor and bolt release, and a drop belly magazine that holds 4 rounds down. The one-piece bottom metal has a straddle floor plate w/ an inside-the-bow release and is engraved in a traditional scroll around “Rigby .416” in the center of the floorplate.

The top of the action ring is engraved:
Rigby’s Special .416 Bore for Big Game

The rifle is set up for iron sights only and the action has never been drilled and tapped for scope mounts.

The 22” barrel has Rigby’s pattern quarter rib that is hand filed and has 1 standing/1 folding leaf Express sights lined in gold and engraed  w/ their respective distance (100, 200 yds). The ramp of the foresight is stippled and hand filed on the flat of the sight that has a single brass bead and a removeable sight hood. There is a sling swivel attached to the bottom of the barrel and engraved on top of the barrel in Old English script: J. Rigby & Co. London, England.

The rifle is stocked in a walnut stock w/ nice straight grain w/ a RH beaded cheekpiece, 14 ¾" LOP over a thin rubber pad that has a hard rubber heel plate to prevent snagging on one’s shirt when the rifle is shouldered and the standard pad used by Rigby’s during this period.  The grip and forend are checekred in a 24 lpi point pattern w/ Mullered borders and there is a solid horn grip cap and a single recoil bar that is color hardened and engraved. The stock has a sling swivel along the toe line w/ a stock oval that remains blang.

The rifle weighs 10 lbs. 1 oz and remains in like new condition.

This rifle was completed in the late 1980's and has been sourced from the original owner and is coming to market for the first time.

A very nice example of the rifles the venerable English maker was producing in the 1980’s under the guidance of the legendary Paul Roberts and represents a chance to acquire an actual Rigby made .416 Bore.
