Description:
George Gibbs .505 Magnum Bolt Action Magazine Rifle 

Completed in the late 1980’s and based on an original Oberndorf made magnum length, single square bridge action (s/n: 92214 and ca. 1924-25 per Speed’s book)  w/ a traditioanl flag safety engraved “SAFE” and bolt knob w/ a checkered tip, a modern single stage Mauser trigger, a drop belly magazine that holds 3 rounds down w/ one-piece bottom metal that has a hinged straddle floorrplate and inside-the-bow release.  
 
The extractor and bolt release are Nitre blued and the top of the action’s ring is engraved: “Sighted for 525gr Bullet” and still retains the original Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf A/n roll mark on the wall of the action just in front of the thumb cut. 

The floorplate is engraved: 
"Calibre .505 Gibbs Magnum" w/ scroll at the borders.  
 
The barrel is 24” w/ a heavy taper and Gibbs’ pattern island sight base w/  1 standing/ 2 folding Express sights lined in gold and engraved w/ their respective distance (100, 200, 300 yds) and Gibbs’ pattern foresight w/ a single white bead and a folding sight hood.

The barrel is fitted w/ a banded forward sling eye and the Maker’s name and address are engraved between the rear sight and action:  

"George Gibbs Bristol, England" 

The highly figured walnut stock has dark contrasting figure in the stock but runs straight through the grip. The traditional cheekpiece is for a RH shooter and has an expertly cut double bead and is also expertly checkered w/ a very fine 26 lpi point pattern checkering which is borderless over the wrist w/ mullered borders along the front edge. The forend’s has wrap checkering w/ mullered borders and an Ebony forend tip. There is a tradtiaonl sling eye along the toe line of the stock and the stock oval remains blank. The rifle has a 14 3/8” LOP over a Silver’s recoil pad and single screw solid steel grip cap.  

The rifle weighs 10 lbs. 6 oz.  

Complete in its original maker’s lightweight leather case w/ red baize interior and maker’s leather trade label.  

This rifle has been acquired from the original owner and it remains in near new condition w/ only a few handling marks.
