Observing work present on Morris Hallowell's site and others I would repectfully have to agree. The rifle was commissioned, according to the owner, in mid 1936 and delivered sometime in the first few months of 1937. The animal scenes are consistent with Mr. Fuggers work and style (Full body game scenes) as well as the foliate panels and scroll style. Joseph Fugger, Griffin in-house master engraver from 1927 to 1972, was an under study, student and employee of Rudolph Kornbrath before moving to G&H as head engraver and a department head, engraving mentor and Instructor to Winston Churchill. Churchill, considered to be the finest engraver of his time, became Griffins master engraver upon Fugger's retirement in 1972. You are clearly able to see the similarities in Kornbrath's style in Fugger's work as well as the infuence of Fugger in Churchill's work. These men collectively are considered to be three of the finest engravers of the 20th century. Jim, Thank for your thoughtful help.
