According to Wikipedia and other sources the very late 1939 and early 1940 p-38's had wooden striated grips with the original grip screw.
This estate attic find was in the house of a W.W II G.I.
She found in the back of his gun chest. The condition is almost pristine.
Not a blemish anywhere except for small a repair on the right panel in the upper left corner .
Those familiar with the P-38 will note that the wood is very thin there with the grain was running vertical.
As a result this split was not uncommon.
The problem was solved by quickly switching to to the more common plastic grips.
If you have an early P-38 this is an outstanding chance to upgrade it.
