Smith & Wesson Model 28 (the classic “Highway Patrolman") in .357 Magnum. This example is a used, never-fired firearm — essentially old-stock that was carried or stored but never discharged. The revolver retains a strong original blued finish with only light storage wear .The action is smooth, lockup is crisp, timing is correct, and the cylinder locks up tightly. Bore and forcing cone inspected and appear excellent for a piece of this vintage.
This is a solid, utilitarian K-frame built on the same lines as the more ornate Model 27 but intended for duty use — a great collector piece or functional shooter if you choose to shoot it.
History
The Smith & Wesson Model 28, commonly known as the “Highway Patrolman", was introduced in the mid-1950s as an affordable, duty-grade alternative to the full-blown Model 27. Built on S&W’s K-frame, the Model 28 shared the same strong .357 Magnum performance but was finished and appointed for service use rather than show—simpler checkered walnut or rubber grips, a durable blued finish, and fewer decorative touches. It quickly became popular with law enforcement and plainclothes officers who wanted the power of the .357 Magnum in a more practical package. Over the decades the Highway Patrolman earned a reputation for reliability and ruggedness; today it’s sought after by collectors and shooters who appreciate classic mid-20th century American revolver engineering.
