Here we present a C&R Remington Model 1894 Hammerless Shotgun, manufactured circa 1900 in Ilion, New York. The Model 1894 was made in grades A through E, and the top grades will compete on even terms with any gun made in America for strength and beauty. The problem is finding one of these scarce hammerless shotguns. The Model 1894 was made from 1894 to 1910 for a total of some 42,000 examples. It seems the 1894 was usually bought by people who were serious shooters. Even in the higher grades, many of these guns show signs of heavy use which made the survival rate quite low.
Remington Arms was founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington in Ilion, New York, as E. Remington and Sons. Remington is America's oldest gun maker and is claimed to be America's oldest factory that still makes its original product. Remington is the largest U.S. producer of shotguns and rifles.
