Description:
Circa 1770-80 converted Jaegar-style rifle.  This absolutely wonderful rifle is one of the earliest rifles I have seen.  Smooth bore muskets were still the super majority during this time period.  The relief carvings are incredible and well crafted.  This rifle is the grandfather to the American Kentucky/Pennsylvania long rifle's Golden Age.  The rifle is orininally flintlock, but later converted to percussion in early 1800s with a serpent head hammer.  The early patch box is framed with brass decorative ends and has double set triggers.  This rifle was made for a wealthy individual as no common man could own such a rifle in that era.  The lock is marked W. Zirath over A. Trachenberg who evidently was a master gunsmith and rifle maker.  This is a beautiful piece of history and would be in the immediate company of any Golden Age Kentucky rifle.

A beautiful piece for any collection!
