Description:
WORLD WAR II Era U.S. INLAND M1 Carbine SEMI-AUTOMATIC Light Rifle WWII C&R

GENERAL MOTORS mfg. w/CANVASSLING and OILER

Here we present a C&R U.S. Inland M1 Carbine Semi-Automatic Rifle, manufactured in 1944 at the Inland Division of General Motors in Dayton, Ohio. This .30 caliber semi-automatic rifle was first used by the United States Armed Forces on October 22, 1941, and Inland Division was the first of 10 manufacturers to receive an order two months later in November of 1941 and was one of the only two still producing carbines when the war ended in 1945.

The M1 carbine was one of the most cost-effective weapons used by the United States military during World War II. At the start of the war, the average production cost for an M1 carbine was around $45, which was roughly half the cost of an M1 rifle at about $85, and only about a fifth of the $225 price of a Thompson submachine gun. Additionally, the .30 caliber carbine ammunition was significantly cheaper to produce than the standard .30-06 rounds; it required fewer resources, was smaller, lighter, faster to make, and easier to produce. These factors played a major role in the U.S. military’s decision to adopt the M1 carbine, especially given the large quantities of weapons and ammunition that had to be manufactured and transported during the war.

The overall condition is very good. This example has been refinished. Replacement stock, with the original hand guard. “Inland MFG. DIV. General Motors 7-44” marked barrel. Strong action. The bore is bright and contains sharp rifling. Legible markings. Good sling.
