Here we present a C&R Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle chambered in the very popular .44 Winchester Center Fire cartridge, made in 1901 in New Haven, Connecticut. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years. Many gun owners favored Winchester rifles for their ability to fire the same ammunition as their pistols, meaning that a cowboy, trapper or stagecoach defender could take along his trusty rifle and pistol sidearm with only one supply of ammo!
In April 1919, Winchester eliminated the “18” and “19” from the model names of all of the various models that were in active production. So, after this date, the Model 1892 would have been the Model 92.
The overall condition is good. Original gray patina. There is a repaired crack in the forend and a sliver absent on the right side near the cap. The buttstock has a thin split on the right side near the buttplate. The bore is mostly bright with serviceable rifling. Legible markings throughout. Strong action.
