A breathtaking tribute to old-world craft and raw power, this Gravex Deluxe double rifle in 450 Nitro Express is the sort of firearm that stops a room. Built on a bolstered Holland & Holland–style hand-detachable side-lock action, serial 5G-02, it pairs classic double-rifle geometry with modern fit and finish: the action locks up tight, the triggers are crisp and the ejectors are strong and in-time. Mechanically flawless and presented in like-new condition, this rifle is ready to hunt the largest game on the planet or to take its place in the finest collection.
The engraving is simply superb — roughly 95% coverage by master Spanish engraver Vicente Alberdi — with a charging Bull elephant on the bottom, a Cape buffalo on the left and a rhino on the right, each set within fine English-scroll borders and carried across the extended top and bottom tangs. The coin-finished action and Bulino game scenes give the piece an immediate sense of provenance and personality that few modern doubles can match. Alberdi is a very accomplished Spanish engraver who trained with Bottega C. Giovanelli for a number of years to master his craft.
Barrels are 24.875" and retain better than 99%+ of their original deep blue, with bright, clean bores and sharp rifling. The quarter rib is grooved for scope mounts and carries a standing gold-line express sight with three flip-up leaves plus an express front with a flip-over moon sight — ideal for fast, close work or setting up a low powered scope. At 9 lb. 1.6 oz and with a 14.5625" length of pull to the leather-covered recoil pad, the balance is that of a working dangerous-game rifle: substantial, reassuring, and comfortable for a confident shooter.
The stock is exhibition-grade walnut with a right-hand palm swell, right cheekpiece, and beautifully executed checkering. Structurally robust thanks to the bolstered, side-clipped action and extended tangs, this Gravex carries the strength and aesthetics to justify comparisons to much more costly English and continental doubles. If you are looking for a ready-to-use, gorgeously finished 450 NE that reads like a museum piece but functions like a guided tool for the harshest hunts.
