Description:
Cased GAMBLING SET” w/Belgian DA Folding Trigger POCKET Revolver & DAGGER

7.65mm SELF DEFENSE Handgun w/ACCESSORIES

Here we present an antique Belgian Double Action Folding Trigger Pocket Revolver, made circa the turn of the century likely in Liege, Belgium. This pocket revolver is fitted inside the case of this Vintage Gambling Set. Also fitted in the case is a “BROOKES & CROOKES/SHEFFIELD” marked dagger with a 6-5/8 inch blade, silver fittings, and a leather &nickel silver sheath. There is also a compartment with some chips, two card cuff clips, a “Put & Take” top, and a deck of cards.

This little self-defense pistol would have been the “Ace in the hole” for a gambler who was falsely accused of cheating at cards back in the day. It would have also been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy cities of Liege, London, or Paris during the tumultuous times of the late 1800s to early 1900s. These type pistols are small, light and simple. The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the Saturday Night Specials of the 16th-19th century. Before the Deringer, they were Gentleman's or Muff Pistols, typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff.

The overall condition is good. The action is strong, although the return spring is weak. Good bore for its age. This example has been refinished in nickel. Legible markings. Solid grips with minimal handling wear. The case is good. The dagger is very good. The accessories are good or better.
