Description:
Winchester Model 1866 Rifle “Yellowboy,” 3rd Model, .44 Rimfire, 24" Barrel, SN 54763 (1871)

An important piece of American firearms history, this Winchester Model 1866 lever-action rifle, known as the “Yellowboy,”represents the third model produced in 1871. The Model 1866 is regarded as the direct successor to the Henry rifle and was the first firearm to bear the Winchester name, establishing the foundation of Winchester’s enduring legacy.

This example features:

  • 24-inch barrel in .44 rimfire
  • Brass receiver, characteristic of the famous “Yellowboy” design
  • Wood stock that has been sanded at some point in its life, yet remains in good condition with no visible cracks
  • Barrel finish now presenting as a soft gray with attractive blue spotting
  • Serial number 54763, dating to 1871 production
The Winchester 1866 was carried across the frontier and abroad, prized for its reliability and firepower. Third models are especially collectible as they represent the height of 1866 production before the introduction of the Model 1873.

A fine representative of this iconic rifle, ideal for collectors of Western history and early Winchester arms.
