Description:
- The Winchester Model 77 nameplate was used for mid-20th-century Winchester attempts to offer a modern semi-automatic rimfire in the company’s sporting lineup. One of the configurations used a tubular (under-barrel) magazine rather than a detachable box magazine — this appealed to hunters and shooters familiar with Winchester’s long history of tube-magazine rimfires and shotguns.
- The tube-feed Model 77 variants were marketed as handy, easy-to-carry small-game/field rifles combining the convenience of semi-automatic fire with Winchester-style ergonomics and finishing (blued metal and walnut stock). Like other Winchester rimfire autoloaders of the era, they used a straightforward blowback action and were intended for plinking, small-game hunting and general recreational shooting.
- Exact production details and variant names/years varied by run; many features (barrel length, sights, stock profile) were offered in a few factory combinations and some examples were later sporterized by owners.
Design & operation
- Action: Simple straight blowback semi-automatic rimfire action.
- Feeding: Tubular magazine mounted under the barrel (spring-fed, with magazine capacity determined by tube length and cartridge length). Cartridges are loaded nose-to-tail into the tube and feed into the bolt face as the action cycles.
- Intended use: Small-game hunting, plinking, teaching/training, and general field use where a handy, reliable rimfire is wanted.
SPECIFICATIONS
- Caliber: .22 Long Rifle (LR)
- Barrel length: 22 inch
- Rifling / bore: Good rifling, shiny bore
- Magazine capacity: 15 Rounds
- Sights: Factory iron sights (open bead front and adjustable rear)
- Optic: Grooved receiver for your favorite optic
- Stock & finish: Walnut sporter grip stock, smooth finish, light to moderate handling marks, one 1 1/4" scratch near bottom front of forend, no cracks; LOP: 13 1/2", Black butt plate with the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. logo
- Blued metal: light wear and handling marks
- Receiver: Semi-automatic action, mechanically solid, fed by tube feed magazine, thumb safety, bolt hold button just in front of receiver on top right side
- Condition: This is a great example of a used Winchester Model 77 Tube Feed Magazine .22 LR rifle. It is better than average for the bore, action, metal finishes and smooth finish stock. Has the original sights plus a grooved receiver for your favorite optic
