Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R World War I Dated Imperial German DWM (Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken) Pistole Parabellum P.08 Military Luger Pistol with Holster, made in 1915 in Berlin, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical and productive fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end.
The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with being carried by German troops during both World Wars and is perhaps the most associated with those events. The top of the chamber is Great War dated “1915”. The top of the toggle is marked “DWM”.
This pistol is an example of an early-World War I German Luger manufactured by DWM in 1915. The right side of the barrel extension has the three “Crown/Script” German military proofs next to the Imperial Eagle proof.
The overall condition is good. Original blue finish. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The grips are quite worn and there are some small chips and a short, stable crack. The numbers match throughout, with the exception of the magazines, one of which is a WWII era piece with an unnumbered base, while the other is a more modern magazine. The holster is a replica in very good condition with a tool in the pouch.
