Description:
REMINGTON Model 510 “Targetmaster” .22 S, L, LR Bolt Action SINGLE SHOT C&R

Hunting/Plinking Rimfire “BOYS/YOUTH Rifle

Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Remington Model 510 “Targetmaster” Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle, chambered in .22 Caliber Rimfire, made during its production run between circa the 1950s in Elion, New York. This nice little single shot had a manufacturing run between 1939 and 1962 with a total production of 558,686 rifles made. This single shot bolt action is chambered in .22 rimfire, capable of handling Shorts, Longs, and Long Rifle rounds. This rifle has always been considered a basic, accurate shooter. That was Remington’s intent, as the rifle was brought into the market to compete with similarly elemental and inexpensive rimfires from Stevens, Savage, and other sporting models.

Chances are over the years, you or someone you know has probably had the Targetmaster Model 510 tucked in the corner of the closet or hanging on your gunrack, but finding confirmable details is a little bit tough. A good resource is the “The History of Remington Firearms,” by Roy Marcot. According to Marcot, Remington’s entire 500 series of rifles shared a cost-saving receiver, “…made from seamless drawn steel tubing, not more expensive forged steel.” The lineup included the 510, 511 (basically a 510 with a magazine), 512, 513 and semi-automatic 550.

This would have been the rifle that a boy learned on, plinked old tin cans, and hunted with. Its single shot loading system was strong, simple and reliable. It also taught the shooter how to make that one shot count.

The overall condition is good. Traces of original blue finish with patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling. The stock shows much use and remains solid.
