Description: General Specs: Winchester, 1897, .38-55, 7lbs. 10oz., LOP 13″ Serial Number: 19951 Scan the internet for Winchester Model 1894’s and you will find many with wildly varying prices. You will see many rifles with standard features, and even more carbines with 20” barrels, as after about 1936 the rifle was discontinued. This rifle was built in 1897 and came from the factory with a very rare 28” octagon barrel. From the research we’ve done, we can find evidence of only 1,153 Model 1984’s ever produced with a 28” barrel. When you consider that over 7,000,000 Model 94’s have been produced over the storied history of America’s Deer Rifle, being chambered in the most desirable big bore caliber, .38-55 and the rare barrel length combine to bring a rare and capable long range, big game rifle. And of course, rarity and desirability are what drive the value. The barrel has some scratches and light pitting and 97% bluing, and the 8 out of 10 bore has strong rifling from breach to muzzle with some frosting. The crescent butt plate and forearm cap put nice finishing touches on the rich wood with nice grain. Each gun has its own story, and one look at this gun tells you it has many stories to tell. Enjoy the photos and thank you for considering!
