Description:
Guns Listing ID: 584649

This is a true piece of Browning history, an all-original 1954 Browning Auto-5 (A5) 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun, manufactured in Herstal, Belgium by Fabrique Nationale (FN). This example showcases the classic pre-Miroku craftsmanship that defines the “golden era" of Browning long-recoil shotguns.

Serial prefix “H" confirms its 1954 production year. All major components are original to the firearm, including the 30-inch fixed choke “Special Steel" barrel, which is chambered for 2¾\" shells and proudly bears its Belgian proofmarks. The legendary “humpback" receiver features factory scroll engraving on both sides, a timeless mark of FN’s old-world attention to detail.

Mechanically, the gun is in excellent working order. It has been function-tested and cycles properly. The bore is pristine, with clean, sharp rifling and no pitting. While the exterior shows minor surface patina and small cosmetic corrosion spots, these are consistent with respectful field use and do not affect safety or functionality. This gun was clearly cared for and lightly used, not abused or reblued.

The checkered walnut stock and forend are original, with no cracks, repairs, or refinishing. The wood retains a natural aged finish and crisp checkering, giving it both warmth and integrity. The original Browning buttplate is intact and correctly fitted.

This A5 is one of the true FN Herstal Belgian production models, made decades before Browning transitioned to Japanese production with Miroku in the mid-1970s. These pre-Miroku Belgian A5s are increasingly sought after for their superior build quality and investment-grade longevity.
