LOUIS POLICE DEPT Property Marked & Lettered S&W .38 HAND EJECTOR C&R ROARING TWENTIES Law Enforcement Sidearm STL Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Hand Ejector Model of 1905 Fourth Change Double Action Revolver manufactured in 1928 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This factory letter indicates that this revolver was shipped from the factory on January 20, 1928, and delivered to Geller Ward Hasner Company, St. Louis, Missouri. This revolver was ordered for the St. louis Police Department and stamped with their property marking and number. The shipment was for 25 guns stamped with the numbers 840-865. They were billed at $19.37 each. This series of revolvers had a production run between 1915 to 1942 with a total production of 758,296. The .38-caliber serial number range is from 241,704-1,000,000. Later models in this series include the .38 Military & Police Victory Model and the S&W Model 10. The Model 1905, as with the other .38 Hand Ejector models, is a six-shot revolver built on the Smith and Wesson K frame, with a swing-out cylinder chambered in .38 Special. The overall condition is good. Gray patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp rifling; the barrel appears to have been swapped long ago as it is slightly shorter than the letter states. The grips are replacements from the mid-1980s that are solid. Serial numbers match. As the letter states, the back strap is stamped "POLICE DEPT. ST. LOUIS, MO. NO. 846". Own the original!
