Description:
Very fine and 100% original Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle in 40-82 caliber.
S/N 48650 made in 1890, qualifying it as an antique.
The original barrel and magazine tube bluing remains very strong with consistent depth and color throughout. The remaining metal components are color case hardened and have taken on a pleasing silver-grey patina with a few areas of scattered dark spotting. There are light original case colors showing through, being more vivid in protected areas. There is a shallow scrape/drag mark originating near the upper left frame wall.
The underside of frame and buttplate have worn to mostly a lighter silver-grey patina.
The wood is vg-excellent throughout, showing some typical handling marks but no cracks or busted corners and has never been sanded or top coated.
The 26" octagon barrel has an excellent, bright bore with pronounced rifling troughout and only very light frost in areas.
The mechanical functions are also flawless, butter smooth and crisp with a positive half cock.
The original sight package consists of a German silver front and Winchester sporting rear with elevator.
Comes with a Cody research letter confirming production and configuration as described.
