This 1977 Navy Arms Uberti Model ’73 Sporting Rifle in .44-40 Win is a handsome, ready-to-shoot example of a classic American lever gun built on Italian craftsmanship. The 24.25" octagonal barrel shows 98% of its original blue and the action displays about 85% of its original case color, giving the rifle an attractive, gently lived-in patina. Mechanically the rifle is excellent: the bore is bright with strong rifling, the action cycles smoothly, the hammer and trigger are crisp, and the tubular magazine holds a generous 13 rounds. Markings include “NAVY ARMS CO. RIDGEFIELD N.J.” and “MADE IN ITALY” on the barrel, caliber stamping on the right shoulder, proof marks and AC date code on the left, the Uberti logo on the receiver, and serial number 30688 on the bottom tang.
The two-piece wood stock is straight-gripped with a capped forearm and crescent steel buttplate (minor freckling present), offering classic lines and a solid feel in the hand; length of pull is 13" to the steel butt. The sights are period-correct: a U-notch elevator rear and a blade front that make sighting intuitive for both cowboy-action shooting and plain field use. Clean, reliable, and attractive, this Model ’73 is an excellent choice for collectors who want a desirable reproduction with real presence, or shooters who want a sturdy, historically styled lever rifle that’s ready to carry to the range or the ranch.
