Superb Early Ruger Single Six “Flat Gate” .22 revolver. Just acquired from a very prestigious collection is this superb Ruger Single Six .22 revolver acquired here just a few steps away from the original Ruger factory in Southport, Ct.
From the home of the Ruger Collectors Assc. (RCA) this specimen, serial number 15501 it was made circa 1955. The early specimen is a 3 screw revolver with 5.5"barrel and a rare "flat gate" loading gate. This specimen appears to have been used very little if at all and has nearly 100 blued finish with only a slight amount of loss of blue at the end of muzzle on left side. Minty grips as well as mint bore. Markings very sharp.
The “Old Model” Single-Six (3-screw frame) covers the period from 1953 to 1972. Early guns used the flat loading gate (rather than the later contoured/rounded gate) until early 1957. The serial number range: According to Ruger’s own chart for the standard Single?Six, beginning serial “1” in 1953, “50” in 1954, “10734” in 1955. This serial number (15,501) falls in the 1955 range.
- It is estimated that only about 2000 “flatgate” specimens were made.
