Description: Smith & Wesson introduced the .357 Registered Magnum revolver on April 8, 1935. It was the first production gun to be chambered in the new, powerful .357 Smith & Wesson Magnum cartridge. The first one off the production line, (Reg. No. 1) was presented to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover. Built on the robust 'N' frame, it was made to handle the much higher pressures of the new round. When S&W went to their standardized model numbering system in 1957, it became redesignated as the Model 27. Not just a revolver, the Model 27 represents a milestone in handgun history: It defined the magnum revolver era, influenced law enforcement and civilian self-defense for decades, and remains one of the most iconic guns S&W ever produced. This particular revolver is a Model 27-2 in great condition overall, and has been well cared for, with only a slight bit of holster wear at the muzzle. Only a very few small nicks are visible in the blued finish or on the walnut S&W medallion target stocks. The action is very smooth and the cylinder locks up as tight as one could possibly ask for. There is no damage to the side plate screws, which is a sign of good care. The sights consist of an adjustable square notch rear and a Patridge-style front blade along a checkered rib. The 6 ½" barrel is pinned, as expected on a 1972 production piece. The wide checkered hammer and grooved trigger are both color case-hardened. Also included are a blue zippered Smith & Wesson logo soft case, and a black rubber Hogue Monogrip.
