The Savage Model 1914 is a hammerless, take-down, slide-action (pump) rifle chambered for .22 caliber rimfire ammunition. It was manufactured by Savage Arms Corporation from 1914 to 1926 as an improved version of the earlier Model 1903. Action: The rifle features a hammerless, slide-action mechanism that is operated by a pump handle on the forend. It was an evolution of the company's previous designs, offering improved function. Caliber: The Model 1914 was designed to be a "do-it-all" rifle for small-game hunting and plinking, and was chambered to fire .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 Long Rifle ammunition interchangeably. Barrel: A key characteristic of the Model 1914 is its 24-inch octagonal barrel. Early versions had a 6-groove barrel, but later production runs, starting around 1919, featured a more accurate 4-groove barrel. Stock: The rifle was typically fitted with a plain, walnut pistol grip stock and a matching forend.
