This is a "TOWER" and "(Crown only)" marked musket that has London commercial proofs at the breech of the "LONDON" marked barrel, and a 2nd Type India Pattern lock. The barrel has a mottled pewter gray patina with scattered spots of plum-brown that darkens at the breech. The lock has a mostly dark brown patina with traces of silvering along the high and exposed edges, and there is oxidation inside the pan and around the vent. The pin-fastened stock has numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the sanded and reapplied finish, with chips in the wood along the forend where the sling bail used be installed (the rear sling swivel is also missing. Some stable drying cracks are also present on either side of the buttstock. The brass furniture has developed a dark ochre patina, with darker spots scattered about the metal, although the sideplate is nickel silver and has a pale, frosted appearance. The metal ramrod is heavily pitted at the tip, and the lock is fully functional, locking firmly at both half and full-cock. This is a nice looking "Brown Bess" type musket with an original 46" barrel, and is in good-near very good condition overall. Antique; Price: $2,495.00 Antique: Yes |
