Description:
1918 mfr. UNITED STATES PROPERTY COLT 1911 US ARMY Pistol GOVT World War I

WWI-era Inspector Marked 1911 Government Model

Here we present a Colt Model of 1911 U.S. Army Pistol, made in 1918 in Hartford, Connecticut. John Moses Browning’s famous pistol was adopted by the U.S. government in 1911 and attained iconic status throughout both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam and beyond.

This one was made in the last year of the Great War. It is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” on the left side of the frame. Also on the left side of the frame behind the trigger is the “Eagle/6” government inspector mark. The right side of the slide is marked “MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY”. The serial number dates the gun to 1918. The left side of the slide is marked “PATENTED APR. 20, 1897. SEPT. 9, 1902/DEC.19, 1905. FEB.14, 1911. AUG.19, 1913” with a rampant colt in the middle, then “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.” The rear of the slide bears a small “H”, which is an inspector’s mark. Small “59” on the right lower trigger guard bow.

The overall condition is good. Slightly weathered and modestly refinished metal surfaces. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The grips are solid. Comes with three magazines and a very nice Rock Island Arsenal leather holster.
