Springfield Trapdoor rifle built in the “style” of the original Springfield Armory “Marksman’s Rifle”. The Marksman’s rifle was a limited production rifle (approx. 11 rifles) produced by Springfield Armory in early 1880’s. The rifle was a prize for the Army division rifle competitions. See “armscollectors/trapdoor” for photo of original Marksman’s rifle.
This rifle has a highly figured California Walnut stock with hand rubbed oil finish, Ebony nose cap, and checkering pattern as was on the original rifles. Trapdoor action was completely refurbished and color cased by Wyoming Armory. Barrel is new Green Mountain barrel blank turned to Marksman’s rifle dimensions and chambered for 45-70 Government. Rear tang sight base is from Montana Vintage Arms and is mounted into pillars epoxied into the stock.
