Springfield M1 Garand with Type 1 National Match Upgrades – Serial # 535418 
And Presentation Model Type Burrill (tiger stripe) Walnut Stock
Most National Match Upgrades to Type1, model 3 standards were made in 1959.
This was the first use of 062 Markings on the front site.
Orginally Manufactured in Feburary 1942 - Details below. 

Best effort search indicates that Serial number: 535418 was manufactured in February 1942. (://nps.gov/spar/learn/historyculture/u-s-m1-garand-rifle-production.htm). With Armory National Match upgrades made in 1959 and re-issued to the Marines. The National Match, Type 1 model 3 Rifles produced in1959 were the first to use of 062 Markings.

At some point this rilfe was chosen to be converted into a Presentation Grade M1 Garand rifle, with the expected Burrill (Tiger Striped, Walnut Stock. Careful inspection shows very few marks of any kind on this stock and none on the metal.  Interested parties have the option of having this Rifle inspected by a qualified gunsmigh or experienced person in the Tampa Bay area at the potienial buyer’s expense.  
Presentation Models were often given to individuals for significant achievements or as special gifts. These rifles are known for their exceptional craftsmanship, including the use of high-grade walnut wood, and (usually) refinished metal. This rifle seems to be very similar to the AI enhanced Google search describtion at the end of this listing, as well as in the last photo.

All of these markings are clearly visiable on the rifle. 

This rifle was purchased in 1970 from a member of the Third Army Rifle Team. I was a member but never good enough to compete.  But I did have plenty of free range time and lots of national match 7.62 ammo for practice. So, my fairly short time on the team was enjoyable.

I purchased this rifle from a member of the team and he told me that he got this rifle from an "older" friend of his in 1968. 
He represented it as a “Presentation Model”, but with no documentation.

I didn’t care because I never intended intended to sell it. Fast forward to 2025. My kids don’t appreciate this rifle and they will sell it as soon as I'm gone. So, I decided to add it to my Gun’s International Listing of military rifles. Why $10,000?  Because I paid $1,000 for it in June 1971,  And $1,000 in 1971 the same as ~$8,000 today. Given that there is a heck of a lot fewer M1’s like this available today. If any? 10K seems kind of reasonable to me?.

I fired 8 rounds from this rifle just one time with a gun smith just to confirm safety. (I had another one Garand for shooting). And it has been displayed in air conditioning every since. As far as I know it is as issued in 1959 then upgraded to a Presention modelt It has been inspected and extreamly lightly cleaned, per disclaimer below. Important: It was never completely broken down. No need to and I didn’t want to. Please let me know if I can add to any of  the above.

In 2002, the entire collection was professionally removed from wood and inspected for condition, then cleaned, lubricated and put back in the wood by a very experienced and professional Gunsmith. All received a clean bill of health from a condition stand point, most much better than appropriate for the age. They have only been lightly cleaned and oiled by me, since purchased. Since I acquired them, the entire collection has never out of a temperature-humidity, controlled environment. Most post 1920 guns have been fired by a qualified gunsmith or range master. For reliability, functionality and safety confirmation. I have fired a few of the newer rifles that are listed. Limited to a total of <200 rounds, max. Most rifles have some oil build-up in the tight places. This is due to never over cleaning them to maintain as much originality as possible.
Firearms that are equipped for them have as-issued correct Bayonet and Scabbards, in very good condition. Most have (sure looks like) as issued: Slings, clips and / or removable magazines. All have the expected stampings and / or cartouches. As far as I know, there are no reproduction replacement parts in this collection! Some Government Arsenal Reconditions are included with clear markings of this reconditioning, and these are identified in the listing.

A "Presentation Model" M1 Garand is a standard M1 rifle that has been specially prepared, often with enhanced wood and metal finishe for a ceremonial presentation to a notable individual.  The M1 that is listed in my Guns International site looks more like the Traditional Presentation Version that has the “Tiger Stiped Stock” with the pretty rare US Armory NM rifle Upgrades.  See the 15th photo in this Guns International listing.  
However, there a few notable altered (crome, engravings, etc) versions that are also considered "Presentation Models". Both variants, are typically unique pieces, commissioned for a special occasion and / or person. 
Key information about these rifles as supported by Google.
  • Customization: M1 Presentation Models are distinguished by special features not found on standard military issue rifles. These can include “high-grade” or custom stocks like this one, special finishes, like chrome plating, inscriptions, and custom display cases. The higher quality Presentations featured National Match grade rifles.  The Underlining was my emphasis
  • Purpose: The primary purpose is honorary, recognizing significant achievements, service, or milestones (such as a production number milestone, exemplary achievements, etc). 
  • Notable Examples:
    • The 1,000,000th M1 Garand Produced:   Presented to the rifle's inventor, John C. Garand, upon his retirement in 1953. This rifle featured special accessories like a silver-plated clip and gold-plated cartridges.
    • The General George S. Patton's: A chrome-plated Winchester M1 Garand t was prepared for presentation to General Patton, but he died before he could receive it.
    • The Senator John F. Kennedy's Rifle: Received a specially prepared National Match M1 Garand with accuracy enhancements through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (DCM) in 1959.  Note: DCM accuracy enhancements are not considered NM. 
  • A small number of other presentation-grade rifles were also produced for company executives:  Such as:
  • Harrington & Richardson (H&R) and International Harvester Executives: In 1955, H&R was Presented nine special Presentation Grade H&R M1 Garand rifles, for the executives of H&R,  sub-contractors International Harvester, and Line Material Corporation (LMC), to commemorate the completion of post-WWII contracts
