Description:
Made with 28” Chromox Fluid Steel brls, 2-3/4” chambers, that have matted concave top rib with twin white beads. Tops of barrels stamped “CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” on right, “MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA. USA.” on left. Both tubes with 2” oak leaf wedges at breech ends. Long slim splinter forend with triangular ebony tip and is checkered in point pattern with nicely oak leaf engraved Deeley latch release and iron. Interior of forearm with SN and patent dates. The casehardened boxlock receiver is beautifully engraved in oak leaf pattern with ducks on left, quail on right and engraved “ANSLEY H. FOX” on top of game scene on both sides. There is a fox in oval on bottom all surrounded by well executed and shaded oak leaf pattern. Brl fences, top of frame, and top tang are nicely oak leaf engraved as is the top lever. The blued trigger guard with oak leaf engraving on bow, vacant shield at center, SN at tang. The beautifully figured custom Prince of Whale gripped buttstock with wave checkered cheeks and wave checkered through the grip, terminates with a burgundy leather covered pad. The buttstock and forearm currently on the gun are masterful replacements accomplished by famed and legendary custom rifle maker Duane Wiebe. The original buttstock and forearm for this gun are included with the gun.
Overall condition is excellent as partially restored. Barrels retain nearly all of a professionally restored rust blued finish. The Duane Wiebe Buttstock and forearm currently mounted on the gun are superbly crafted replacements by one of Americas most admired custom rifle makers and remain near mint with virtually all of their custom finish remaining. The frame retains about half of its original color. The original buttstock is very good as restored with evidence of repair through the wrist and stock extension towards butt with contemporary pad. Original forearm is generally very good to excellent overall. Bores are bright and shiny overall. Mechanics are excellent. A beautiful rare sub-gauge Fox!
