Description:
Rare Winchester Model 54 in 22 Hornet caliber that remains in very fine cosmetic condition. Unfortunately, there have been several non factory drill holes added to the receiver to accommodate previous scope mounts.
There are 2 holes drilled in the left side of receiver for side scope mount and 2 smaller holes in the top of rear receiver bridge for a more conventional scope block.
S/N 40854A with matching bolt made in 1934.
This rifle is of the later standard style with "NRA" type stock very closely resembling its soon to be successor, the Pre War Model 70. It also has the full length integral front sight ramp like a Model 70.
Aside from the aforementioned holes, the condition is very fine with strong original finishes and minimal wear, given its age. Even the bottom metal retains most of its original finish although does show some notable scratching. The wood finish has slightly dulled.
The buttplate finish has worn mostly away and taken on some rust scaling.
The bore is clean and bright with distinct rifling, and all mechanical functions are smooth and proper.
I have personally inspected the chamber and guarantee it to be an original 22 Hornet, never reamed to K Hornet or any other.
A very difficult to find rifle in the funnest caliber to shoot! I wish it didn't have the holes, but at 91 years old it could be a whole lot worse.
