Description:
Highly sought after caliber and configuration. This is a Winchester Model 70 featherweight in .308 Win. with the desirable aluminum buttplate.
S/N 381936 with matching bolt made in 1956.
The metal condition is very fine with strong bluing throughout. Even the aluminum components are in superb shape with very little wear on the bottom metal and just a bit of the usual scuffing on heel of buttplate.
However, the wood is lagging behind a bit, due most notably to some unusual sharp impressions on both sides of the buttstock that look to me like an animal bite! Now after 40 years of flying and guiding hunters in the wildest reaches of Alaska you can bet I've got some stories, but I'm not gonna make one up here! I simply don't know what caused those marks, but have zoomed in with unfavorable light to help you make your own assessment. There are other scattered marks on the wood including some areas of stabilized flaking around the checkering panels. All said, it still looks pretty darn good at arms length and may be just what you want in a nice collectible shooter grade that you can take out and hunt with a clear conscience.
The slim 22" barrel has an excellent bore and all mechanical functions are smooth and proper.
Expedited and fully insured shipping from Alaska is an additional $75
