Description:
SILVER MOUNTED B. Brooke Antique QUEEN ANNE Flintlock Pistol GROTESQUE Mask

BRITISH PROOFED with RIFLED SCREW OFF BARREL

Here we present an antique B. Brooke British Queen Anne Style Flintlock Pistol, made circa the early to mid-1700s in London, England. Benjamin Brooke of London was an active gunmaker in London between 1717-1760. He also apprenticed his son, Benjamin, in the trade. It features a single .60 caliber rifled bore. Queen Anne pistols are a type of breech-loading flintlock pistol known as a turn-off pistol, in which the chamber is filled from the front and accessed by unscrewing the barrel. Another distinguishing feature of the design is that the lock-plate and the breech section of the firearm are forged as a single piece. Possibly first made in England, they came in fashion in England during the reign of Queen Anne, who reigned between 1702–1714, and are consequently so named. This type of pistol is noted primarily for being made small, so that it could be easily carried and concealed.

This pistol is quite beautiful with its silver mountings. The barrel and frame are both forged in one piece and the barrel does unthread for loading. Loading the breech directly, as opposed to loading via the muzzle, allows the shooter to use a larger ball for better gas seal and is therefore more efficient. This is an original surviving flintlock and not converted as many were when the percussion firing system became available. It features a classic silver grotesque mask pommel cap.

The overall condition is very good. Strong action. Original gray patina. The bore is in very good shape, has dimmed and remains smooth. Solid grip, good, with average dents and scuffs. Markings are legible. The barrel screws on slightly off center.

This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 5-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .60 Flintlock

Overall condition as seen in photos.
