Winchester/Miruko Model 1886 Rifle Limited Series in 45-90
This is a Winchester 1886 Limited Series rifle made by Miruko in 45-90. It has walnut stocks, deep blue metal finish, 26" full octagonal barrel marked "CAL. 45-90 BLACKPOWDER ONLY". It has standard semi-buckhorn barrel sight and a blade front sight. It is equipped with a tang safety and rebounding hammer.
Condition:
The overall condition of this Winchester 1886 rifle is excellent with 99%+ of its original finish. The markings are clear and sharp. The bore is in excellent condition with crisp, sharp rifling and the rifle cycles 45-90 rounds perfectly. There is some evidence of use mostly showing on the stocks with a couple of bumps and scratches on the right side of the butt stock. This rifle has the tang safety and rebounding hammer which work fine. These were made as a limited series and this one was made C. 2004.
The barrel is marked with "Cal 45-90 BLACKPOWDER ONLY" and there may be a couple of reasons for this. One might be that it was a legal/liability addition but the other and more likely reason is there are no SAAMI Standards for the 45-90. Although there are some small ammunition companies that make 45-90 it is not commercially made like the 45-70 is. The Model 1886 is probably the strongest lever action available so my guess is this rifle could be shot with smokeless loads. I am not a fan of the tang safety or rebounding hammer but I suppose a case could be made for them. This is a real fine rifle and although Winchester/Miruko still makes versions of the 1886 they are with shorter round barrels and pistol grips. Not many of these Winchester 1886 Limited Series 45-90's come up for sale.
