Description:
Fine example of a rectangular cast-brass belt plate, 3 ½" x 2", U.S. pattern of 1851, depicting an American eagle with outstretched wings, with a pennant bearing the motto "E Pluribus Unum" in its beak, a shield on its breast and arrows and a laurel branch in its talons. The eagle is encircled by a laurel wreath and topped with 13 stars and a sunburst, all on a stippled background. The reverse is fitted with a 3/4" wide retaining hook. By the wear on the shield, this example was heavily worn. This is accompanied by what appears to be the original keeper with matching patina to the plate, always prized pair, the keepers fit to the plate is excellence. Over-all in very good original condition.;
