Description:
Serial #NSN, .38 Center fire (M&H & S&W), 3.5 inch barrel with a good bore with moderate pitting and about good rifling. This is a Merwin, Hulbert & Company medium frame double action revolver manufactured circa 1880's. The double action features elaborate factory punch dot engraving covering all but the grip frame and shows a detailed stag on the left panel. This model was equipped with the patented folding hammer and is equipped with mother of pearl grips that fit just slightly proud of the butt. It is marked "MERWIN HULBERT & CO. NEW YORK U.S.A. / PAT. APR.17.77. JUNE 15.80 MAR.14.82 JAN.9.83". It retains virtually all, 95-97% of the original bright nickel finish with some of the original blue and red enamel blue left in the design. The frame does have a small crack that runs from the left side of the trigger extending back about ¾ of an inch to the 2nd pin, it does function well mechanically with a strong lock up but we don't recommend firing it. The unique Merwin barrel and cylinder removal process works with a very snug fit. A beautiful example of these unique and very well built Merwin & Hulbert double action revolvers. Antique.
