Reginald F. Sedgley, a Philadelphia gunsmith formed R.F. Sedgley, Inc. Sedgley was known for buying pre-existing actions and rebarreling and restocking them. This rifle is one of them. A Springfield 1903, chambered in .30-06, its approximately 23.5" barrel is stamped “R.F. SEDGLEY. INC. PHILA, PA. U.S.A.,” along with his circled “S” proofmark. This rifle's walnut stock with schnabel forend is checkered and does have hook-and-eye sling mounts. This Sedgley also features Sedgley's signature hooded ramp-based front sight, a Lyman No. 48 rear sight, Winchester checkered steel buttplate, and hard rubber grip cap.
We find this rifle's receiver, bolt, and custom stock to be numbers-matching.
Topping off this Sedgley custom is a Hensolt Wentzlet Ziel Dialyst scope with a post reticle. This scope is paired with a numbers-matching Griffin & Howe scope base and rail.
The barrel's rifling is strong and clean. The bluing on this rifle presents well with no scratches. The stock is also in excellent condition with minimal handling marks seen. The stock has no cracks or gouges. When we removed the butt plate we found the serial number for the rifle along with what appears to be a GH.
