About Us: First of all, thank you for your interest in my listing. I am an FFL Dealer in Connecticut, as well as a collector. The business name, Warthog Arms, is derived from my Air Force service as an avionic tech on A-10 Thunderbolts (also known as the Warthog). I always strive to go the extra mile to ensure a very satisfying transaction and have an established, trustworthy reputation. I also use GB for listings so if you would like to view my feedback, you can look me up in Advanced Search under Warthog-Arms. My current rating there is A+(160).

Description:
For your consideration is a Walther P.38 AC41 pistol, serial number 4364f, manufactured in August 1941.

The AC41 Second Variation was the last to have the high polish blue finish. The main noticeable difference from the First Variation was the omission of the company code “ac” from the front left trigger guard and barrel flat.

This pistol also exhibits the rare “open” or “horseshoe” sear. These were made sporadically throughout the AC41 into early AC42 production.  According to Buxton (see The P.38 Pistol, Volume 1, p171-172 and figure 4-67K) these sears were leftover experimental stock from the Zero-Series P.38s and later cycled into production. This one has the stamped E/359 Waffenamt, some were etched or engraved.

 This pistol features:
  • Matching barrel, frame, slide, locking block, and magazine.
  • Rare experimental “open sear”.
  • Correctly marked and matched magazine with P.38 and two E/359 waffenamts on the spine (Blue Book adds 40% for matching mag).
  • High polish blue finish slide.
This example is in overall very good condition. It has wear consistent with age and use. Many of these pistols saw hard use and capture on the Russian Front.

The original finish shows some areas of finish loss, mostly on the slide and muzzle ring.

Bore retains good rifling but is somewhat dark with pitting noted.

The dark brown Bakelite grips are in good condition with correct markings. Note the U-shaped relief cutout on the inside upper right panel for the open sear. The right panel has a compression crack with an older repair, though barely noticeable.

Mechanics are excellent - I did not test fire it but flawlessly cycled a full magazine to test chambering/extraction.

Overall, a decent example of a Walther P.38 AC41 “Open Sear” Second Variation w/matching mag for your collection.
