Description:
Offered for sale is a very handsome interwar example of the 1903 Springfield rifle. Manufatured at the Springfield Armory in 1934, it still retains its original 5/33 dated barrel and the BA appears to have the original bolt and black oxide and manganeese phosphate finishes typicle of that era. All metallic parts are milled and parkerized as expected of an early WWII era rebuild. The stock set appears to consist of a Model of 1941 Remington-made high hump hand guard and a M1941 Remington butt stock. The stock has no rebuild cartouches and appears to be unsanded and in solid VG condition. My guess is that the stock set was either a field replacement or an upgrade added by by a previous owner. The striker rod is also of M1941 Remington production. All other parts appear to be of either SA or RIA manufacture. The bore shows signs of significant wear, but still has clearly defined lands and grooves throughout. There is some minor fouling and perhaps some spots of light freckling. The muzzle measures a 1.5 on my erosion gauge and the action cycles smoothly and locks up nice and tight.The action passes the Go-No Go test with flying colors. The chamber accepts and extracts cartridges without any deformation. The bolt body is an early production NS type. The overall finish is in approximately 90% condition. Accuracy seems to be reasonably good considering the rifle's age and bore condition. Please note that payment by eletronic transfer is required (zel would be ideal). Due to an impending long distance move, payment must be in hand no later than 11/25. Rifle will ship via USPS ground, insured, for an additional $65.00. Although this rifle has been checked and test fired by a compent gunsmith, shooter safety is the sole responsibility of the buyer.
