Description:
The Model 03-A3, officially known as the M1903A3, was a WWII-era bolt-action rifle produced by Remington Arms as a simplified and cost-effective replacement for the earlier M1903 Springfield rifle. Key changes included stamped parts for faster production, a rear aperture sight mounted on the receiver bridge to improve sight radius, and a straight stock without grasping grooves, among other wartime efficiencies. Chambered in the same .30-06 round as the venerable M1 Garand, the 03-A3 was issued widely to US forces as a secondary arm. Remington produced about 1 million of them from late 1942 through early 1944. This particular rifle is from February of 1943. It has all the correct markings on the barrel: RA over a flaming bomb over 2-43 on top, with a P stamped on the bottom. The receiver bridge is stamped 'U.S. REMINGTON MODEL 03-A3' above the serial number. The oiled walnut stock is in good shape and shows no proof marks, which was common for this production run. The sling loops are in place, but there is no sling with it. It has the correct knob-adjustable rear sight and hooded front sight post. The tubular cleaning kit is right where it belongs in the hinged-compartment butt stock and is only missing the adjustment tool for the front sight. The upper piece of the forend does have a small crack about 2 ½" long, but blends in well with the grain; this could just be a natural crack from age or drying of wood, but does not appear to be of major concern. The Parkerized finish is in remarkably good shape for its age and shows very little wear! The action operates smoothly, and the bore is clean and very bright. There is no box, case, manual, or stripper clips included. This is a very clean, original, classic 1943 vintage battle rifle with lots of collector appeal. .30-06 Springfield
