Description: For consideration here is a superb custom two-rifle A-Square Hannibal African battery for plains game and dangerous game. An exceptional bespoke order in every sense, with full documentation, personal correspondence, scopes, accessories, and a signed first edition of a rare book all on offer. The gentleman who put this together ordered it directly from A-Square’s Arthur Alphin at the 1993 Safari Club International show. Both rifles are Hannibal models built on modified Enfield actions and stocked in Alphin’s signature Coil-Chek stock design with full bedding and crossbolts. Invoices, a signed original letter from Alphin, and documentation of rifle order details all included. The first rifle is chambered in 416 Rigby and weighs 11 pounds with scope. Features a 24-inch barrel and 13-3/4-inch LOP. Scope is a Leupold Vari-X III 1.75-6x32 in a Leupold quick-detach re-zeroing mount. Also comes with a second Leupold M8-2x Extended Eye Relief scope in Leupold rings. Additionally, rifle features iron Express sights with an excellent and precise wheeled elevation adjuster at the rear. Also, it has Pachmayr flush-mount sling swivels and an included A-Square branded hand-tooled leather cobra sling. The second rifle is chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum and weighs 9.75 pounds with scope. Features a 26-inch heavy contour target barrel with special target crown and 13.5-inch LOP. Rifle is mounted with a Swarovski Habicht 3-10x42 in Leupold rings and bases. Rifle has McKenzie quick-detach swivels mounted to a leather A-Square branded hand-tooled cobra sling. Rifle is also setup to utilize a full set of Anschutz aperture target sights. The customer specified the building of a custom adapter bracket to accommodate this sight setup. The descriptions of this are all discussed in an included letter from Alphin to the customer. See photos for all the sight accessories, including the specially made adapter and its use. Also in the letter is mention of a “special chambering reamer,” the cost of which was split between A-Square and the customer. Goal was clearly a precisely fit target grade chamber for competition. The schematic and the modified dimensions drawing for the reamer and cartridge are included. Chamber will accommodate standard .300 Win Mag cartridges as well. There are 74 rounds of ammunition included: data label states 180-grain Swift A-Frame bullets over 71.7 grains of AA3100 in Remington brass with Federal 215 primers. Ammo handloaded by owner, regardless of reported data on labels, proceed with caution. Both rifles feature A-grade walnut stocks in the aforementioned Alphin Coil-Chek design. There are a few use and handling marks as expected, for these rifles were hunted and lovingly maintained, but no major problems with the furniture at all. Bores are bright and rifling crisp. Rifles have been professionally disassembled and cleaned, and function flawlessly. Rifles shipped in early 1994 and all paperwork is included, even the shipping airbill from Kentucky to the Fairbanks, Alaska gun shop that received them. Comes with everything in photos including a pair of Dewey action cleaning kits, various brushes, a jag, and three nylon bore guides. There is an extra magazine floorplate spring. A Forster Ultra-Seater precision .300 WM seating die as well. Package also includes a wheeled, heavy-duty, reinforced aluminum Americase Premium travel locker with four keylock latches and a combination lock. Interior foam liners need replacement as they have evident deterioration. Lastly, as a perfect accent to this superb package, a signed first-edition copy of Alphin’s famed and scarce A-Square book / handloading manual Any Shot You Want. The volume is personally signed in ink by Alphin to his customer. This is a rare opportunity to secure an outstanding pair of A-Square rifles in superb condition with excellent scopes, and an exceptional assortment of accessories and documentation. The owner is no longer able to travel or shoot and is very hopeful that these will go to their next caretaker, who will return to Africa with them for more adventures.
