Savage 93R17 BTVSS – 17 HMR – 21" Heavy Barrel – Alpen Apex 6-24 Scope
Beauty. Precision. Fun. Sub-MOA. There are a whole lot of terms to describe this rifle and all of those that we just mentioned are accurate. This is a beautiful, fun to shoot, precision rifle that is capable of sub-MOA accuracy at 100 yards . . . provided that the shooter is capable of that!
Our 93R17 (serial number 0919821) was manufactured in July, 2007. It’s hard for us to believe that it’s 18 years old because it looks nearly new. The rifle has a stainless 21 inch heavy barrel with no sights mounted on it. The magazine is detachable and holds 5 rounds. The Accu-Trigger aids in getting that sub-MOA accuracy that we talked about. A manual safety sits just behind the bolt handle.
The stock is a laminated hardwood thumbhole stock and it’s absolutely beautiful. Sling swivels are mounted on the stock and there are two in the forearm. One, obviously, can be used for a bipod to set you up for those precision shots. A black, rubber recoil pad sits at the end of the stock.
Already mounted on the rifle is an Alpen Apex 6-24x50 scope with attached sunshade. The glass is clear and the reticle is sharp and defined. Magnification adjustment works as it should. The exterior of the scope is also Very Good with just one scuff that we noticed. Alpen scope are not inexpensive and having this one already on the rifle is a huge value add.
The action of the bolt is smooth and the trigger is very light with a fantastic feel to it. The minty bore is very clean and the barrel is bright. Rifling appears to be good as well. The metal finish is in Excellent condition, as is the laminate stock.
There’s a lot to like on this rifle and it all comes at a pretty inexpensive price. If you’re still not sure, go look at prices on this scope. Yes, it’s an older model but you’ll see that the scope and rifle together really are a great package deal. If you’re ready for some fun and ready to test your precision shooting skills, this one is ready for you to add it to the collection.
