Description:
Here is a Sako Model L61R Finnbear Deluxe bolt action rifle in .300 Winchester Magnum caliber. The serial number is 23587. It was manufactured in Riihimaki, Finland likely around 1967. The brightly finished barrel is 24-1/2 inches long and is stamped Bofors Steel. There are no provisions for iron sights. There are factory dovetails machined into the top of the receiver to accept proprietary scope mounts/rings. The embossed dovetail mounts, the top of the bolt handle, and the top of the bolt sleeve are checkered. The gun has a hinged floorplate magazine. It is engraved with a stylized elk head underscored with leafed branches. The trigger guard is also engraved with a leafed branch. There are proof marks of the left side of the receiver and on the right side of the barrel. The rifle has a cocked indicator and a two position safety on the right side immediately to the rear of the bolt handle.
The rifle has a light walnut Monte Carlo stock with a pronounced cheek-piece, skip cut checkering on the forearm, identical skip cut checkering on the pistol grip, a rosewood pistol grip cap, a rosewood fore end tip, an aftermarket Limbsaver brand recoil pad, and sling swivel mounts. The bottom surface of the bolt handle has the serial number electro-penned into it.
A Leupold 3x9 VARI-X II aluminum tube scope with cross hair reticle in mounted atop the rifle with Redfield SR mounts and associated rings.
The rifle is in outstanding condition with these exceptions. There is a minor dent on the left side of the stock below the serial number, a minor scratch on the left side of the stock above the trigger, areas of very minor micro pitting on the barrel above the Made in Finland stamping and on the barrel on the right side near the front. There is also minor freckling on the magazine floor plate and trigger guard. The gun’s lock up is as expected and the bore is excellent.
