The Colt Police Positive is a small-frame, double-action revolver featuring a six-round cylinder, chambered for either .32 or .38 caliber. It was also later offered in .22 caliber cartridges. Designed primarily for sale to federal, state, or local law enforcement agencies, the Police Positive was introduced into the overall firearms market by Colt's Manufacturing Company in 1905. The Colt Police Positive was an improvement of Colt's earlier “New Police” revolver, upgraded with an internal hammer block safety. The Police Positive was very successful venture for Colt. Along with the Colt Official Police, it dominated the law enforcement firearms market in the early 1900s. The Police Positive was itself incrementally modified in 1908, forming the basis for Colt's Police Positive Special model. The Colt Police Positive Special was a slight improvement of Colt's earlier Police Positive model with the only differences being a slightly lengthened cylinder and elongated and strengthened frame to allow the chambering of the longer, more powerful .32-20 Winchester Center Fire and .38 Special cartridges. The included factory letter lists this revolver as chambered in .32 Police with a 4-inch barrel, blue finish, and grips not listed when shipped to Scmelzer Arms Company in Kansas City, Missouri on October 23, 1919. The overall condition is very fine. Original finish. Excellent action. Shiny bright bore, maintains sharp rifling. Fine antique ivory grips. Markings are sharp. Visible numbers match.
