The pictures pretty much say it all on this beautiful old revolver! The muzzle and the ejector shroud show just the beginnings of holster wear, and the cylinder shows some rotation marks, beyond just the bolt rub marks. The case hardening colors are vivid and clean on both the frame and hammer and show no wear! I would estimate the bluing at 98%. The serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard and grip frame all match. The bore is pristine, 9.8 out of ten with ten being unfired.. There is no rust or pitting anywhere on this gun.
This gun was made in 1911. On the top of the barrel in a single line is rolled COLT'S PT F.A.MFG Co Hartford CT USA. On the left side of the barrel is the caliber, 32 W.C.F. Patent dates and the rampant colt in a circle are on the left of the frame below the cylinder.
This single action army comes with a letter of authenticity that shows it to be as manufactured, and originally sold to Carl Engel of Bute Utah. A quick search shows that Carl Engel (1871-1956) operated a sporting goods store in Butte, Montana, was a deputy sheriff circa 1925-1931, became an insurance agent after 1931 and resided in Reno, Nevada circa 1952 until his death in 1956.
This old Colt is in beautiful condition and would make a fine contribution to any SAA collection!
