Colt Border Patrol - 2nd issue. Made from 1970-1975 only. This one was made in 1971.
This Colt Border Patrol Revolver is one of only 5356 blued guns made. These guns were made between 1970 and 1975 for both the U.S. Border Patrol services and the commercial market. There is no official record as to how many were actually bought by the U.S. Border Patrol versus sold commercially. This model was built on Colt's Trooper Mk.III "J" frame and featured a 4" inch "heavy" barrel, a 6-shot fluted cylinder, factory adjustable sights, and checkered Walnut target-style grips. The Border Patrol had a slightly less-polished frame than the Trooper Mk III.
This is a very nice 2nd year example with about 90% of the blueing intact. Most of the finish loss is from holster use, along the muzzle on both sides. Has some surface scratches but no pitting or chipping. Front sight has had a green fiber optic type inserted. Stocks are in good to fine condition. Butt has some scratches but don't appear to be cracks. The checkering has has been flattened pretty well but is still visible. Bore is bright and mirror like. As with any used firearm, it should be inspected by a competent gunsmith before firing. No warranty is stated or implied.
