Savage Fox B – 410 Bore – 26" Barrels – 3" Chamber – Double Trigger – 1950 Model
This consignment sale Side by Side shotgun is a Fox B from Savage. The Fox Model B was made by Savage from 1940 – 1988. Our model has no serial number (nor was one required) but we see a letter B date code, which indicates likely production in 1950.
This one is a 410 Bore, which is the less common variant. It is chambered for 3 inch shells, has a 26 inch barrel and a solid rib with a single bead sight at the muzzle. Savage did not put choke markings on these shotguns but the majority of the 410 models were choked Full and Modified..
The receiver features engraving on the left, right and underneath side of the receiver. It has a double trigger and a tang mounted safety. The pistol grip stock has a black cap on the grip and the buttpad is a black plastic.
The engraving on the left, right and underneath side is mostly intact and clear, even though the photos may not have picked it up as well as we’d like. The majority of the finish on the receiver has been lost to age. Most of the finish on the barrels is intact but the rib does show some oxidation on the top side. The bores and barrels are ok but the entire gun could do with a good cleaning and lubrication. The tang safety functions as intended, as do the triggers. We find no cracks in the wood but there are numerous dings and signs of use.
If you’re a fan of vintage side by side guns, especially ones that were as popular as the Fox B, take a good look at this one to see if it deserves a spot in the collection.
