Description:
NSN, .54 Caliber, 9" barrel with good pitted bore. This is a first variation pistol that has an overall mottled gray and plum-brown patina on the metal with cleaned gray metal along the top radius of the barrel, and heavy pitting at the breech around the pan. The "P / US" markings at the breech are still crisp and clear with some old file marks also visible along the top and left side. The lockplate has patches of freckling scattered throughout and partially legible markings: "S. NOR(TH) / U (Eagle) S / MIDLN CON." Some mild surface oxidation is present on the top jaw of the cock, and a similar patina is present on the stock fittings. The stock itself is in good shape with numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the reapplied military oil finish. There is a short crack running up from the rear sideplate screw and a refreshed inspector cartouche (possibly "JN" & John Newbury) on the left side opposite the lock. The pistol comes with a replacement oak ramrod, and the lock is fully functional. This is an attractive pistol, made by the "Patriarch of U.S. Pistol Makers." Antique;
