Description:
***SOLD***
This is a 250 Savage CARBINE and it is real!
S/N 63409 with matching bolt. A transition era rifle assembled shortly after WWII as production resurged in early 1946.
I have carefully examined this rifle with special focus on the barrelled action and it is absolutely authentic with perfect stampings and a 1932 under-barrel date. (Correctly made from a Model 54 blank). Additionally, all of the rare to caliber and very unique internal parts are correct and were produced by Winchester.
These include #7 magazine box, #5 ejector (and so stamped), a specially positioned bolt collar, etc. It even has the proper little "S" stamped on the back of the extractor ring.
There is one unfortunate discrepancy that defies logic, but the stippling pattern on top of the ramp has been removed. It is possible that the barrel has had very believable new blue applied over the old, but there has been absolutely no polishing, showing razor sharp stampings along with a correctly flared proof mark, so the stippling could not have been accidentally polished off. I can barely see the remains of a couple of sharp dings on top R edge of ramp, so perhaps it took a bad hit or scrape and was dressed down. Once again, this is a 100% guaranteed factory carbine barrel with an integral ramp and roll dye stamping that is not the usual "new" production and has not been cut, then had a ramp added.
Overall condition is fantastic, with 97-98% finishes, excellent bore and perfect mechanical functions.
I have only seen a few structurally authentic examples of these in my entire career. They are much rarer than even the very rare Super Grade.
