Description:
Antique G.H. DAW & Co. Self Defense “BRITISH BULLDOG” Pattern CF Revolver
ENGLISH Double Action SELF DEFENSE Handgun
Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique G.H. Daw & Company “British Bulldog” Pattern Double Action Revolver, made circa the mid-1870s to 1887 in London, England. Daw opened his business at 57 Threadneedle Street in London somewhere around 1852 and remained there until 1887. The revolver was a small, sturdy, well-built self-defense weapon, ideal for potent conceal and carry in the era not long after the American Civil War and continuing into the 20th century. During the 1870s and 1880s, this was one of the most popular double-action styles in Europe and America.
The original British Bull Dog was a popular type of solid-frame pocket revolver introduced by Philip Webley & Son of Birmingham, England, in 1872, and subsequently copied by gunmakers in continental Europe and the United States. Webley’s original gun featured a 2.5-inch barrel and was chambered for .442 Webley or .450 Adams cartridges, with a five-round cylinder. Webley produced a smaller scaled .320 Revolver, as is this example, and .380 caliber versions later but did not mark them with the British Bull Dog name.
This gun has the London address on top strap with British proofs on the barrel and cylinder.
The overall condition is very good. Some original blue is present in low handled areas with a mix of gray patinas on the rest of the surfaces. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Fine grips with sharp checkering and minimal handling wear. Legible markings. Functions in double action only. The trigger sticks on a single chamber.
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 3-1/2 inches.
Caliber: .320 Centerfire
Overall condition as seen in photos.
