There are a lot of choices when it comes to tactical shotguns. Dozens of combinations of stocks, barrel lengths, sights, optics . . . the list goes on and on. One affordable and reliable option is the Mossberg 500. They aren’t built to be pretty but they are built to work. The features on this model are ones that you need, not ones that add glitz and glamour.
The Mossberg 500 that we have on consignment (serial # U190963) is a 12 Gauge model with an 18.5 inch barrel and a chamber that will accommodate both 2-3/4" and 3" shells. The barrel does not accept chokes. It’s also ported near the muzzle to aid in recoil management. The barrel is parkerized for long-term durability. A tang safety is located at the rear of the receiver.
A picatinny rail sits on top of the receiver and currently has a ghost ring rear sight attached. However, if you’d like to add a red dot or optic instead, the picatinny rail allows you to do just that. The front sight is a bright fiber optic that aids in quick target acquisition. A Beamshot pic rail has been added underneath the barrel at the forward end of the magazine tube. A light or laser would fit nicely on that one.
The stock is a multi-position ATI stock with a generous recoil pad. A pistol grip is located just behind the trigger guard. A five round shell holder is mounted on the right side of the stock.
The stock and grip are in Good condition. The receiver has scuffs and marks although (based on the condition of the bore) we would think that these are marks from storage and transporting. The barrel also has some scuffs, which are common with a parkerized finish. The bore is very clean, as is the barrel, which makes us believe that actual use of the shotgun has been pretty minimal.
Overall, you’ve got a shotgun here that’s ready to go to work. Not sit in the safe, this one is ready to work.
