ALMOST NEVER ENCOUNTERED 1895 LEE STRAIGHT PULL SPORTING RIFLE, .236 NAVY (6mm LEE NAVY) CALIBER, #14XXX, MADE 1901. These scarce Winchesters are not often seen in any configuration, but the musket version made for the U.S. Navy are the most common. Very few sporting rifles were made and most collectors have never seen one. The few I’ve seen over the decades have all been in hard used condition and this one is no exception. Metal is mostly gray/brown overall with fine markings. Action works fine, wood has been lightly gone over, but is solid. Smooth steel shotgun butt plate with Winchester embossed hard rubber pistol grip cap. Original buckhorn rear sight with blade front sight. No bore left in this one, but few would go to the expense and trouble of forming ammo to attempt to shoot one of these. If you want a rifle few Winchester collectors have or have even seen, this might be it!
